(Nasdaq:ATVI) today confirmed that Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars(TM), the team-based first person action title, and already one of the most anticipated new properties of 2007 is coming to next-gen platforms. SANTA MONICA, Calif., (BUSINESS WIRE) - The war between the GDF and Strogg will soon be igniting on next-generation consoles as id Software and Activision, Inc. Should the console game ship with only online multiplayer, this should surely spark a debate similar to the one brought up by Bioshock‘s lack of multiplayer. It should be noted that the PC version of the game contains no single player experience while console ports like these often receive hack-job single player modes, nothing has been revealed. The PlayStation 3 version, on the other hand, will be handled by Z-Axis, best known for games like Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX and the recent movie license gem, X-Men: The Official Game. The 360 version will be brought to life by Nerve Software, who has previous console FPS experience with games like Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Tides of War ( Xbox) and Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil (PC/ Xbox). While Splash Damage is handling the PC version (which runs on a modified Doom 3 engine), id Software has tapped two different developers to port the game to the consoles. The console releases will support up to 16 players online (the PC version will not have a limit, but will most likely hover between 24-64 players). To the surprise of no one, id Software has officially announced the Activision published Quake Wars: Enemy Territory for the PS3 and Xbox 360. ![]()
